My Great Adventure in London
by Anisa Rynne
I’m called Kiara and I live in the countryside. I’m twelve, (so I’m allowed to go out on my own), my favourite treat is a “Mr Whippy” icecream and I want to be an explorer when grow up. My best friend Chloe lives down the road and she is thirteen. One morning, I looked out of my window and saw the city of London far away in the distance and longed to be there…. I got dressed, raced down the stairs and left a note on the kitchen table saying:
“I’ve gone to the BIG City be back at six. Love K.”
Then I stuffed my coat into my rucksack and skipped down the road to my friend Chloe’s house. Chloe’s parents had gone out, so I told her to leave a note like I did. Next, I told her about going to London with me. “We could use my old hot airballoon to travel there” suggested Chloe. So we set up the old balloon. “This will be fun” I said, grinning. “Yeah” agreed Chloe.”It’s lucky the wind is very strong and going the right way” she commented. This is how the adventure starts! As we rose higher and higher into the air,Chloe and I were planning what we could do when we arrived. “Go to the Gherkin or climb Big Ben”! cried Chloe. “I think we should go to Buckingham Palace” I replied. “But we don’t have tickets” she spluttered. I told her if she followed me then she’d be fine. After soaring through the air for a few hours we reached the city. It was even more amazing than I’d dreamed. There were people everywhere rushing about, and skyscrapers that nearly touched the clouds it was all very exciting! We landed safely, and set off to Buckingham Palace on our great adventure. When we arrived, there were soldiers and guards around the Palace. On the other side, there was a ticket booth to hand your tickets in. It looked harder than I’d expected, yet we had to get inside somehow. Just then, somebody called the guards and soldiers away. “This is our lucky day!” I exclaimed.
Then we saw and heard a bush rustle mysteriously. I hissed at Chloe to hide. We both ducked behind a huge tree. We overheard two men plotting: “Elvis, I think it’s clear now” said the first voice. “Safe to start stealing then Nick” said the second speaker Chloe squealed with shock! “Hey what was that, Elvis?” “Don’t be silly nobody’s here.” Chloe and I kept as silent as mice until we heard a door creaking open. I told Chloe that we had to do something before they got away! After some thinking I had a plan, which I whispered into Chloe’s ear. Chloe thought it was a brilliant plan so we put the plan into action. We followed the robbers and surprised them by jumping out in front of them and saying: “Can we help you carry out this great crime?” The robbers were startled, confused but then very flattered. So Elvis said “Well, I’m the boss of this plan and I’ve decided you can join us”. “I know where the throne room is, there’s plenty of valuables there” I said helpfully. So I began leading them to the throne room, where the queen probably was but I wasn’t going to tell them that! Luckily she was there and I told the queen the whole story, while the robbers stood helplessly with their mouths open, unable to speak. Immediately the queen phoned the police. The police came and took the robbers away. When they had gone, the queen asked us what we would like for our rewards and I quickly said: “First your autograph because our parents will never believe what happened! Next two tickets for the London eye” “And an official tour of your palace rather than us just creeping around” said Chloe “Splendid choices! Here’s my autograph and here are the tickets you need. Now let’s go on the tour” beamed the queen. She showed us such grand rooms even her own bedroom! Finally we waved goodbye and the Queen royally thanked us once more. We set off out of the Palace gates feeling jubilant and extremely proud. It was simply brilliant on the London Eye! I could see for miles around. Chloe said: “It was an amazing idea of yours to go to Buckingham Palace but I didn’t think we’d get to see the real Queen, and go on the London Eye!”. There was a little more fun ahead! Chloe had some money in her pocket so we decided to spend it on two “Mr Whippy” icecreams, which we joyfully ate as we were walking back to the airballoon. We felt dejected in having to leave the busy, bustling city behind. However, it would be nice to be home again and I was so exhausted that the next thing I wanted to do was snuggle down into bed!
We landed safely back in Chloe’s garden and I helped her pack away the hot airballoon. As Chloe shoved it into the shed, she told me for absolute definite that today was one of the most enthralling and exciting days of her life and I had to agree! The next day the headline of the newspaper was: “Two girls averted a robbery at Buckingham Palace.” Chloe had come round for the day and when my mummy and daddy had read the newspaper, they eyed us suspiciously…. I then showed them the Queen’s autograph and they gasped, “You two can get up to so much mischief in one day!” But I think they were quite proud of us though - wouldn’t you be?
